Read Across Rhode Island
Have you ever participated in Rhode Island’s One Book, One State community read program? This initiative of the RI Center for the Book encourages all Rhode Islanders to read and discuss a selected title. Great news! This year’s adult and children’s selections are both available as ebooks on Hoopla. We are planning an online discussion of both titles so check one out and join the conversation.
The Adults’ Read Across Rhode Island title is Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore by Elizabeth Rush, “a rigorously reported story about American vulnerability to rising seas, particularly disenfranchised people with limited access to the tools of rebuilding.” Rising is a Pulitzer finalist.
The Kids Reading Across Rhode Island program, offered by the Rhode Island Center for the Book in partnership with the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services, encourages students across the state in grades 4 through 6 to read the same book, and engage in community discussions and programs. The 2020 selection is The Oddmire, Book 1: Changeling by William Ritter.
“Magic is fading from the Wild Wood. To renew it, goblins must perform an ancient ritual involving the rarest of their kind – a newborn changeling. But when the fateful night arrives to trade a human baby for a goblin one, something goes terribly wrong.”
