2022 Gardens by the Sea Tour
Summer is here and the gardens are beautiful! On Saturday, June 25, 2022, the Cross’ Mills Public Library will host its biennial garden tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour features 12 gardens, eight private and four public and occurs rain or shine.
One garden features the loveliest of flowers, colorful and varied- a sustainable garden, watered only by rain. Another boasts an array of large magnificent Red Maples, American Chestnut and Harry Lauder’s walking stick creating an oasis near Green Hill Pond. Old horse farms with amazing stone walls have been transformed into perennial beds where hummingbirds, bees and dragonflies add to the enchantment. A sweet coastal cottage with a Star Magnolia and fig trees creates a relaxing atmosphere and a way-station for hundreds of monarchs. Brightly-colored coops and chickens welcome guests into a Shangri-La of perennials and annuals alongside a bountiful vegetable garden and koi pond. Wildlife refuges use conservation best practices and incorporate native plants to provide sound habitat for migratory birds and cottontail- offering visitors a chance to unplug from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with our natural surroundings. Herbs and flowers grow amidst Korean lilacs and green giant arborvitae. Conscious landscaping along the banks of Ninigret Pond incorporates beautiful plantings into the natural habitat to encourage birds and butterflies while down the street grand-scale composting provides remarkable biological recycling which accelerates the process of making rich living soil for flowers and food alike. Stroll a variety of gardens, ask questions and behold the beauty of nature.
Tickets are $25 ($30 the day of tour.) The generosity of local gardeners and residents make this tour possible. All proceeds benefit the Cross’ Mills Public Library.
